Fan Submitted Question: hi I am not sure if you can help me. I have crystals on my bedside table and just recently my rose quartz and my citrine has faded dramatically. they are not placed in any sunlight or anything. I wondered if you knew any other reason as to why they could have faded. thank you xx
Answer: Just as a crystal’s energy can change from us working with them, so can their appearance. Granted it is not as common for them to change in appearance, it can happen. They can fade, become darker, more inclusions or rainbows can appear, or other subtle changes. Working with the crystal is the primary reason that I have seen that can cause these changes. They continue to change and evolve with us as we work with them. The changes can be their way of showing us a new side to them or it can be because they are tired or even burnt out. A couple of personal examples, I attended a 13 Skulls meditation. A rainbow appeared on the top of my Fluorite skull right after the meditation. Others looked at their skulls and everyone there noticed a small change on their skulls as well after this large group meditation. The energy from the meditation caused these subtle changes to appear. In this case, the changes were for the good as a new side of the crystal was presenting itself to us. On the flip side of that, I have a Rose Quartz that an ex of mine carved for me. When we broke up the crystal became very cloudy and looked like it was scorched. His negativity at our break up changed the crystal in a negative way. However, over time as we both moved forward I noticed that the heart is not as scorched looking as it used to be, but it is still very cloudy.
I feel like the faded color is an indication that your crystals are tired. You might consider giving them a little stone vacation. Since they are Rose Quartz and Citrine, they are safe to be put in salt water. You can also bury them in the Earth if you feel guided to do so. Follow your intuition and see what the crystals would enjoy the most. You can find various cleansing methods in my Crystal Cleansing Methods article.
