The following is a review of the “The Crystal Deck” by Amanda Samson. This review contains details about the oracle deck, a list of the crystals featured in this deck, photos, a video review, and where the deck was purchased if you’d like to get your own copy. If you have a crystal deck review that you would like to see created send me an email.

The version that I have might be slightly older than the one on Amazon. Mine has a different packaging, but it is the same deck. The only version that I have is the one shown in the photos and video, so I cannot compare if there are any differences beyond the different box design.
Author/Creator: Amanda Samson
Publication Date: ©2006 — My edition was published in 2008 by Metro Books.
Where to Buy: Amazon
Book or Info Cards: 4 introduction cards. This deck does not come with a booklet.
The 4 Introduction Cards: • What are Crystals? • Working with Crystals. • Using Crystal Energy. • How to Use This Deck.
Number of Oracle Cards: 50 oracle cards (plus an additional 4 info cards).
Card Size: 5.75″ by 4″ with a nice laminated heavy cardstock. — This deck is a little difficult to do a riffle shuffle (my preferred method) since it is almost too long for my hands to hold.
The following is a list of the crystal cards included in this deck.
This is one of the few decks that is geared more towards learning about the crystals. The cards include information about the metaphysical properties of the crystals and healing uses. They have a good amount of information on each card. In addition to the metaphysical properties and healing uses, you can also find a list of the colors that stone can be found in, its appearance, how easy it is to find (availability), and key words that clue you in on how that crystal can assist you.
Although these cards are more for learning about the metaphysical properties of the cards they do also include a divinatory meaning. This makes it a versatile deck for learning as well as a divination oracle deck. The divination messages are brief. Typically it is only a couple of sentences. If I were to pull a card from this deck I would look at both the divination meaning and the metaphysical properties of the crystal. It could be the energy of the crystal that is needed at that time or the divination meaning is what is needed to be heard. I personally find that useful and it adds a nice additional depth to the card and a reading.
The deck has a nice mixture of common crystals and it includes a few unusual ones as well. You can find a full list of every crystal that is featured in this deck listed above.
The deck included 4 information cards; “What are Crystals?“, “Working with Crystals.“, “Using Crystal Energy.“, and “How to Use This Deck.” This deck does not come with a guidebook. The information for each crystal can be found on the back of the card while a photo and brief information such as color and the key words can be found on the front.
The deck itself is made of nice sturdy laminated cardstock. They are very well made and I like the box that they come in. They are almost 6″ on the longest side, which makes them hard for me to hold for shuffling.
Finally, I want to discuss the photography. Unfortunately, this is where the deck falls short. If you are looking for a deck to use as flashcards to learn the crystals based on photos, then this will not be the ideal deck for you. While some of the photos are fine, most are out of focus and/or grainy. Some of the crystals, such as Sugilite, do not look anything like the actual stone. For most crystals there is only 1 crystal shown as the example. Some are raw and some are tumbled. In the video above I go through the deck to show up much of what you can expect.
Overall, if you’re going for a deck for the photos of the crystals then I would not recommend this deck. If you are interested in a deck that offers metaphysical information in addition to divination meanings, then this deck is a great one to have on hand.
The following reading is the exact message and information that is included on the information side of the crystal card that is shown above. It is an example of what you can expect for each card in this deck.
Color: Green, red, yellow
Appearance: Transparent to grainy, various shapes and sizes
Key Words: Energizing, Stimulating, Motivating
(Back Side/Information Side)
The power of these crystals is in their ability to clear and rebalance the lower three chakras. It is often here that we get stuck in negative energies, blindly repeat unconscious patterns and allow karmic links to influence our behavior and decisions. Zincite illuminates all that ties us and prevents us from evolving. It stimulates and energizes the lower energy centers, removing blocks, encouraging us to lift the energy to the heart and mental levels in order to resolve and release it.
Zincite promotes cooperation within and outside the self, giving us the motivation and the vitality we need to grow. It enhances our personal power and increases out mental capacity and perception. It is useful for alleviating feelings of depression and lethargy. It promotes the free flow of the life force through the body and increases confidence and independence. It helps us come to terms with life and to embrace it joyfully.
Healing: Zincite is beneficial for revitalizing outward appearance such as hair and skin and working with the sexual hormones. It balances the thymus gland, immune system and energy meridians of the body.
Divinatory Meaning: Drawing this card indicates an influx of energy is on the way. Life and particularly relations with others will seem brighter, lighter and more energized.
